When I was teaching in an FE college I used the Moodle journal to get feedback from the students. As this activity is private between the individual student and the tutor it provided a space where they could discuss areas where they felt that they needed further support with. I also used this tool for students to set their own learning/tasks objectives during workshop sessions etc.

Hi Dawn, I also used Google forms for the same purpose. At the end of each lesson, I would ask students to click on a link on the VLE and complete a Google form. On this form I would have the learning objectives with tick boxes so they can identify which they had achieved, a text box to ask questions or raise concerns and another box where I would ask them to create a question based on what we had covered in that session for the next sessions starter activity. I would then use these questions and answers at the start of the next session. I found if I showed the answers that they had provided even if they were wrong this would start a conversation about why it was wrong thus supporting the person who created the question. This sounds like a lengthy process, but it only takes about 5 mins to complete. You gat all responses on a spreadsheet so its quick and easy for you.
